Fourth Visit

29th April 2018: Preparing Teaching Materials

Since we were going to be teaching the kids their lines as well as certain movements to perform their choral speaking efficiently this coming Wednesday (2nd May 2018), we went out that weekend to buy materials such as mahjong paper and a few market pens to write out the text so it would be easier for us to guide them. We also printed the text on normal A4 sized paper for the kids to bring home to study and memorize. Needless to say, it was a very  productive Sunday night for Fufy and I.

2nd May 2018: Fourth Visit

The fourth visit and time with the kids went pretty smoothly I have to say. Although the five absentees from the previous week remained as absentees, I think that was why the session went on very well since there were no distractions from the naughty ones. We got them to work right away and pinned up the teaching materials on the board.

We had them read the text a few times while sitting down to make sure they knew how to pronounce the words and understood the text well. Since it was a topic they all chose and participated in making, it was a lot easier for us to teach and for them to understand where we were going with this text.

Once we thought they were fluent enough, we got them to line up at the empty space at the back of the class to arrange them into their positions. It felt like I was in high school again watching my class head try to arrange everyone according to height and so on, except I remembered my batch being more cooperative while doing so 💁

Once they took their positions, Ma and Fufy took turns in leading their choral speaking alongside the conductor they have chosen. Whilst guiding them, we also got them to add in little movements and actions to make their performance have more oomph and pzazz.  Overall, they all did very well and I might even say I could possibly be proud of them for pulling through and cooperating with us today. It was a good boost in the busy midweek especially for me. Hopefully the next visit would be an even better one 👋
