New Venture
28th March :
Today we were all introduced to our lecturers for Community Service, Mr. Chandra and Ms. Pauline for the first time. We were assigned a task to go into a high school and teach kids choral speaking or jazz chant in hopes of improving their English. To be honest, for someone like me who does not really fancy kids, I did not really like the idea of wasting my time travelling there every week when I have another five core modules that are very heavy. However, since it was part of the module I just went along with it.
7th April:
After our 2nd meeting, I went out with my partner, Fufy to buy teaching materials in preparation for our first visit to the school. Since there was only 11 of us taking this module this semester, we were divided into groups of 2-3 per class. It has been decided that the school we would be teaching at is SMK Bangsar. We had to brainstorm what ice breakers to do in order to get to know the kids better and to take off the tension of them having to stay back after a full day of classes for this extra curriculum activity.

We thought of animal puzzle split pins would be perfect for this. I photoshopped the above image of the bear and another jellyfish one. Since printing these in A3 would burn a hole in our wallets, we decided to get crafty and made all these by hand - 20 bears and 20 jellyfishes. We bought an A3 drawing block, some paints and brushes and started making these up till 4am that very night. It felt rather therapeutic to sit down and just paint after so long while watching a drama series we did not even realise how late it had gotten.
